Kagitingan Lodge No. 286

Secrets in Freemasonry

Masonry is sometimes accused of being secretive. It isn't really. Masonic buildings are usually clearly marked, Masonic meetings and events are reported in the press, and many Masons wear rings and badges clearly identifying their membership.

The only "secrets" are signs of recognition and some dramatic presentations of moral lessons that are enacted in the Lodge. Keeping these secret until a candidate undergoes the degree conferral adds to the impact of the degree ceremony and, we hope, helps the candidate to learn from them.
